02 — Our story
Irene Chan: freelancer to founder.
For the past decade, my mission has been to help early-stage startups win new customers through organic marketing: social media, community building, and SEO. Part of how I did that was hiring trusted, talented freelancers in the Philippines. Then AI changed everything.
In June 2021, I went full-time as a freelance writer and started using Jasper, an AI writing tool, for blog posts. I cut blog production time from 6 hours to 2 and tripled my revenue.
Amazed by the results, I started hosting workshops to teach early-stage marketing teams and freelance writers how to scale their content with AI. After dozens of workshops, I was invited to teach B2B marketers how to use AI for marketing in Texas in March 2023.
Since 2021, I've built a community of hundreds of contractors from the Philippines, Spain, and Ukraine who use AI ethically and efficiently. In January 2024, I founded irenechan.co to keep helping early-stage founders find the right team to leverage AI. A year later, we grew our team to 23+ freelancers.
03 — The long way here
Career and company timeline.
Growing up in the Philippines, my family's dream was for me to work in the US as a computer programmer. But I was terrible at math. Five minutes before college registration, I switched my major to Broadcast Communication.
That started a series of off-the-beaten-path choices that let me work from the Philippines, earn in USD, and never miss my kids' milestones.
Quit the call center industry and started working as an SEO virtual assistant.
Became an SEO writer, writing more than 200 articles, and started managing social media.
Became Head of Marketing at Veems, an Israeli startup, and ended up living in Israel for a few months.
Spent 4 years at BeLive as Marketing Manager, building remote-first teams in the Philippines and Ukraine.
Went full-time freelance as a writer and project manager for companies like Paperbell and Uscreen, and started using AI.
Featured in publications and international workshops as an AI expert in content production.
Founded irenechan.co to keep serving early-stage startups and the freelancing community.
Our AI workflows got featured in Harvard Business Review.
Implemented AI agents in our content workflows using Claude and Claude Code.

We're all contractors who excel in our own fields and love having fun together, even while working remotely. Some of us are homeschooling mamas who run our own businesses; others are full-time students or employees with side gigs.
