What Is Claude Motion?
Claude Motion is Anthropic’s AI-powered animation feature that turns prompts, text, charts, and images into short animated videos. Launched in beta on October 8, 2026, it lets you create explainer videos, animated presentations, and product walkthroughs directly inside Claude.
Unlike traditional video editors, Claude Motion doesn’t require you to manually animate every element. You describe what you want, and Claude generates the animation for you. You can then edit the result through chat or directly in the editor and export the finished video as an MP4 file.
Here’s a video about Claude Motion using Claude Motion:
Claude doesn’t use a video-generation model; it writes code that controls how text, shapes, charts, and images appear and move on screen.
Why does that matter?
You can edit individual elements without having to regenerate the entire video. For example, if a title appears in the wrong position or you want to change a screenshot, you can ask Claude to make that specific adjustment.
Claude Motion launched alongside Claude Dashboards, another feature designed to turn data into visual dashboards. While Dashboards helps you explore and understand data, Motion helps you communicate ideas through animation.
Both features are currently in beta, although they serve different purposes.
Who Can Use Claude Motion?
As of October 28, 2026, Claude Motion is available in beta on Team and Enterprise plans.

Here’s how access works:
- Team plans: Motion is enabled by default.
- Enterprise plans: An organization owner must enable Motion in Organization settings under Artifacts.
- Free, Pro, and Max plans: Motion isn’t currently included.
If you’re on an Enterprise plan and can’t find Motion, check with your organization’s administrator to see whether the feature has been enabled.
There’s no separate standalone Motion subscription listed. Instead, using the feature counts toward your Claude plan’s usage limits.
What if you’re using a personal Claude account and don’t have access to Motion?
If you want to use Motion to turn your blog posts, reports, or product documentation into videos, I can help you create those animations.
How to Use Claude Motion
You don’t need animation experience to get started with Claude Motion. If you can describe what you want to create, you can start experimenting.
I’m not a video editor by trade, but I’ve been experimenting with videos for the past decade. I’m involved in lots of video productions, but I’m usually the scriptwriter and host.
Here’s how I approach the process.
Step 1: Open Claude Motion
There are a few ways to get started.
First, open a conversation in Claude and describe the animation you want to create. You can also select Output in the message box and choose Motion.
Alternatively, open the Artifacts tab and select a Motion template.

You can also type /motion in the message box to bring up the Motion option.
Once you’ve opened Motion, you’re ready to describe your video.
Step 2: Write Your Prompt
Your prompt determines what Claude creates, so give it enough context to understand the purpose of the video.
I recommend specifying three things:
- Audience: Who will watch the video?
- Destination: Where will you publish it?
- Length: How long should the animation be?
You should also explain the main message you want viewers to remember and describe your preferred visual style. Include the color scheme and fonts as basics.
For example, here’s a prompt you can adapt for your own marketing content:
Claude Motion prompt template:
“Create a 30 second animated explainer video for [target audience] about [topic]. The video will be published on [platform]. Use a clean, modern visual style with readable typography, simple shapes, and smooth transitions. Break the content into short scenes, highlight the most important points, and end with a clear call to action. Keep the animation consistent with our brand colors and include space for our logo.”
You can make the prompt more specific by describing the animation sequence, background, text placement, and transitions you want.
Here’s an example of my prompt for the Claude Motion video explainer:

Don’t worry about getting everything right on your first attempt. You can refine the result later.
Step 3: Attach Your Source Material
One of the most useful ways to work with Claude Motion is to start with content you already have.
Instead of asking Claude to invent an entire video from scratch, give it the material you want to communicate.
This could include:
- A blog post or article
- A research report
- Business data or charts
- Product screenshots
- Images and other visual assets
- A presentation or product walkthrough
For example, if you have a blog post explaining how to use an AI tool, you can use that article as the source for a short explainer video.
Ask Claude to identify the key points and turn them into a visual story. This gives you a starting point for creating a video without having to write everything from scratch.
Just remember to review the animation against your original source. You want the video to communicate the same message accurately, especially when you’re working with statistics, product instructions, or business information.
Step 4: Review and Edit Your Animation
Once Claude generates your animation, watch it from beginning to end.

Check whether the text is readable, the transitions make sense, and the visuals support your message. Also look for awkward timing, incorrect information, and anything that doesn’t match your brand.
The best part is that you can ask Claude to make specific changes.
For example, you might say:
- Move the headline to the center of the screen.
- Make the text larger and easier to read.
- Replace the existing screenshot with the attached image.
- Slow down the transition between the second and third scenes.
- Change the background to match our brand colors.
- Update the statistic in the final scene.
You can also make adjustments directly in the editor.
In my experience, this ability to revise individual elements is one of Claude Motion’s most interesting features. You don’t have to settle for the first version or start over just because one detail needs fixing.
Depending on the animation’s length and complexity, generating a video can take about five to ten minutes. That’s what I’ve observed while experimenting with the tool, although your results may vary.
Step 5: Export Your Video
Once you’re happy with the animation, export it as an MP4 file.

You can then upload the video to your preferred editing software or publishing platform.
For my own videos, I like to add voiceovers and B-roll to make the content more engaging. I upload the Claude Motion animation to Descript and complete my final edits there. I use my AI voice clone in Descript to add the voiceover easily.
I’ve also found it helps to generate the voiceover first, so you know the video length. Export the .srt file from Descript and ask Claude to use that for timing the animation.
However, you don’t necessarily need another editing tool.
If you’re creating a short animation that doesn’t require a voiceover or additional footage, you may be able to publish it as is.
I recommend starting with a simple video. Once you’re comfortable creating and editing animations, you can experiment with more complex projects.

Claude Motion Examples and Use Cases
I’ve been experimenting with Claude Motion to create different types of marketing videos. Here are some examples of what you can make with it.
Intro Video
Create an animated introduction to a topic or presentation. I created this video to introduce a service page. I wrote the script, generated the AI voiceover in Descript, and added music in Descript.
You can create similar intros for your product or service. You just need a script and a vision of the style.
Blog Post to Explainer Video
Repurpose an existing blog post into an engaging animated video. In this video, I turned a blog post on how solo founders can handle marketing.
I grabbed the script from the blog post and fed it to Claude Motion. This is my first attempt at Claude, actually!
News Updates
If you don’t have blog posts, you can turn industry news and product announcements into short, engaging video updates.
Just make sure to credit the news source properly when you’re writing the script.
Definition Videos
Explain concepts in a simple, visual format, such as What Is Claude Motion?
I planned to write a blog post first and then turn it into a video in Claude Motion. But I got overwhelmed with writing an entire blog post. I challenged myself to write a short video script. And voila! I had a script for the definition video. I then used the script and asked Claude to help me write some parts of this blog post.
These examples show how you can use Claude Motion to turn ideas and existing content into videos for your marketing channels. I’m still experimenting with more, like animating a short story I wrote for the kids.
What Are the Limitations of Claude Motion?
Claude Motion is useful, but keep a few things in mind.
- It’s still in beta: Features and availability may change as Anthropic develops the tool.
- Access is limited: As of October 2026, Motion is available on Team and Enterprise plans rather than individual Free, Pro, and Max plans.
- It doesn’t generate realistic footage: Its animations are built from text, shapes, charts, images, and other visual elements.
- It uses your plan’s usage allowance: Longer or more complex animations can consume more of your available usage than a typical message, so you may need to plan your workflow accordingly.
Finally, while Claude Motion can generate the animation, it doesn’t automatically handle every step of your video production process. You may still need to write or refine a script, record a voiceover, add B-roll, and edit the finished video.
For now, I see Claude Motion as a useful addition to a content production workflow rather than a complete replacement for video editing software.
Final Thoughts: Is Claude Motion Worth Trying?
Claude Motion is an exciting tool for marketers, founders, and content creators who want to make videos without spending hours learning animation software. I’ve used it to create explainer videos, news updates, and introductions, and I love how easy it is to make changes by chatting with Claude.
What I find most interesting is its potential for repurposing content. Imagine turning your existing blog posts, reports, and product documentation into engaging videos without starting from scratch every time.
Motion is still in beta, and you’ll need a Team or Enterprise plan to use it. But if you’re looking for new ways to create marketing videos more efficiently, it’s worth exploring.
If you don’t want to create the videos yourself, we can do it for you.
Frequently Asked Questions About Claude Motion
Is Claude Motion free?
No. As of October 28, 2026, Claude Motion is available in beta on Team and Enterprise plans. It’s not included on Free, Pro, or Max plans. Using Motion also counts toward your plan’s usage limits, and longer animations can consume more usage.
Does Claude Motion work in Claude Code?
Claude Motion is a feature inside Claude that creates editable animations using code. Anthropic’s published setup instructions describe accessing it through Claude conversations or the Artifacts tab. They don’t establish Claude Motion as a native Claude Code feature, so the two shouldn’t be treated as interchangeable.
What’s the difference between Claude Motion and Claude Dashboards?
Claude Motion creates animated explainers, charts, and product walkthroughs that you can export as MP4 videos. Claude Dashboards creates dashboards from connected business data. Both launched in beta in October 2026, but Motion focuses on animation, while Dashboards focuses on exploring and presenting data.
Is Claude Motion the same as the Framer Motion skill?
No. Claude Motion is Anthropic’s animation feature inside Claude. Framer Motion is a separate animation library for web development, commonly used to create interactive animations in React applications. Although both involve animation and code, they serve different purposes and aren’t interchangeable.
